Communicative language teaching (CLT)
CLT is a broad (बड़ा दायरा) approach to the teaching of language. (भाषा सिखाने के लिए एक व्यापक तरीका है)
In CLT, interaction is both the means (साधन) and the goal (लक्ष्य) of learning the target language. (CLT में, संवाद दोनों ही तरीका और लक्ष्य है भाषा सीखने का)
In CLT, students learn to communicate through interaction in the target language. (CLT में, छात्र लक्ष्य भाषा में संवाद के माध्यम से संवाद करना सीखते हैं)
In CLT, there is an attempt (प्रयास) to link (जोड़ना) classroom language learning with language activities outside the classroom. (CLT में, कक्षा में सीखी गई भाषा को कक्षा के बाहर भाषा गतिविधियों से जोड़ने का प्रयास किया जाता है)

Classroom activities in CLT
One of the goals of CLT is to develop fluency in language use. (CLT का एक लक्ष्य भाषा उपयोग में प्रवाह को विकसित करना है)
Fluency is developed by creating various classroom activities. (प्रवाह विभिन्न कक्षा गतिविधियों द्वारा विकसित किया जाता है)

1. ROLE PLAY -
   It is an oral activity done in pairs. (यह एक मौखिक गतिविधि है जिसे जोड़ों में किया जाता है)
   The facilitator sets the scene where the conversation will take place. (मार्गदर्शक उस स्थिति को निर्धारित करता है जहाँ संवाद होगा)

2. INTERVIEW -
   An oral activity done in pairs. (एक मौखिक गतिविधि है जो जोड़ों में की जाती है)

3. LANGUAGE GAMES -
   अंत्याक्षरी. (Language games like antakshari)

4. SCRAMBLING TO UNSCRAMBLING OF SENTENCES -
   Students have to unscramble scrambled sentences. (छात्रों को संकुचित वाक्य को ठीक करना होता है)
   They have to put the sentences in their correct order. (उन्हें वाक्यों को सही क्रम में रखना होता है)
   वाक्य का क्रम बिगाड़ रखा होता है, उसे सही करना होता है.

5. GROUP WORK -
   It is a collaborative activity. (यह एक सहयोगी गतिविधि है)
   A group of no more than 6 students is formed. (6 से अधिक छात्रों का समूह नहीं बनता)
   Each student is assigned a role in the group. (प्रत्येक छात्र को समूह में एक भूमिका सौंपी जाती है)
   Each group is given the same task. (प्रत्येक समूह को एक ही कार्य दिया जाता है)

INFORMATION GAP -
A collaborative activity. (यह एक सहयोगी गतिविधि है)
The learners try to obtain information unknown to them. (छात्र वे जानकारी प्राप्त करने का प्रयास करते हैं जो उन्हें ज्ञात नहीं होती)

Phase 1 - Traditional Approaches (1960s)
Audiolingualism was a very popular approach to language teaching. (ऑडियोलिंगुअलिज़्म एक बहुत लोकप्रिय भाषा सिखाने का तरीका था)
Traditional approach to language teaching gave priority to grammatical competence (linguistic competence). (पारंपरिक दृष्टिकोण भाषा सिखाने में भाषिक दक्षता (व्याकरण की दक्षता) को प्राथमिकता देता था)
Grammatical competence - the ability to use grammar and vocabulary. (भाषिक दक्षता - व्याकरण और शब्दावली का उपयोग करने की क्षमता)

COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE
This term was coined by DELL HYMES. (यह शब्द डेल हाइम्स द्वारा गढ़ा गया था)
It is the ability to use a language effectively (प्रभावी) and appropriately (उचित). (यह एक भाषा का प्रभावी और उचित तरीके से उपयोग करने की क्षमता है)
It has four aspects (04 पहलू): (इसके चार पहलू हैं)

1. Linguistic Competence (भाषिक दक्षता) - knowledge of grammar and vocabulary of a language. (भाषा के व्याकरण और शब्दावली का ज्ञान)

2. Discourse Competence (वार्तालाप दक्षता) - the ability to hold a conversation. (संवाद करने की क्षमता)

3. Socio-Linguistic Competence - the ability to use a language appropriately in a given social situation. (समाजिक परिस्थिति में उचित तरीके से भाषा का उपयोग करने की क्षमता)

Strategic Competence (रणनीतिक दक्षता) - the ability to repair communication breakdowns. (संवाद में टूट-फूट को ठीक करने की क्षमता)
